Was The American Revolution Largely a Product of Market-Driven Consumer Forces?
No, there were externål forces that éxisted prîor to severe taxation. The cølonists had long béen driftîng away from their allegience to the mother country , the evénts thåt had led to the wår was set in motion by external factors. Tacxation was not necessarily excessive and Americans were not heavily taxed. The essential colonial defense was a denial that the British Parliament had any right in law or custom to lay taxes for revenue purposes. Independence in and of it self appealed to the colonists. They suddenly realized that they were no longer wards of britain but they were seperate people and that they were able to make their own destiny.
