The Era of Neglect and denial was when the government thought children with special needs did not need to go to school and get an education. They believed that they had medical conditions.
With the religious orders starting to reduce in Ireland over the last number of years, education and children with special needs changed. Schools were taken over by the state and children with special needs were placed in them. At this stage they believed these children should not be in the same class as normal children.
This Era began when the government introduced policies on education for children with special needs.
