The cathedral by Raymond Carver is a story narrated by a man whose wife invites her old friend Robert, who is a blind man to their home. Robert just lost his wife and is visiting some relatives in Connecticut, so the narrator’s wife invites him to their home. The narrator doesn’t seem happy about Robert visit since he is a blind man, but pretended to welcome him to their home because his wife ask him to do so. The narrator in this story is portrayed has a man who is unaware of his limitation insured, arrogant, lack of self-awareness and lacks the abilities to see beyond the physical. Robert on the other hand despite his blindness is happy, sociable open minded and easy going. Despite the fact that the narrator can physically see, he is still blind in many aspect of life. He lacks the abilities to see the world not with his physical eyes but what lies within.
