Childhood represents a state of joy
Childhood represents a state of joy, creativity, and innocence. Innocence here is freedom from constraint and self-consciousness. The children who experience this innocence are are so full of trust in the world, both natural and human. The innocence found within a child is in some ways why the are filled with so much joy, their ability to trust the world provides them with a life without fear or restrictions. William Blake explores the theme of childhood innocence within his works “The Lamb”, “The Echoing Green”, and “The Chimney Sweeper.” Blake uses devices such as images, repetition, and personification to emphasise the joy found within an innocent child.
